Caterpillars Christmas 2017

Take a look at what the Caterpillar Class have been doing during Autumn Term 2017!

Cooking: Sweet and Savoury dishes from around the world: As part of our ‘food glorious food’ topic we made and tasted lots of different dishes traditional to different countries e.g. Pizza from Italy, Yorkshire puddings from England, Gingerbread from Germany, Samosa’s from India and Rhy bread desert cake from Latvia (We enjoyed having Marta’s mummy come into class to help us with this traditional Latvian dish!). In addition to learning all about the food we had fun learning to say hello in lots of different languages as well as exploring national anthems, music and traditional dance from other countries.

Forest School: Collecting Natural objects and creating art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. Finding out where mini-beasts can be found in the outdoor environment. Working and playing together. Enjoying being part of a group and sharing each other’s company over a cup of hot chocolate and snacks.

Visits out in the community: We enjoyed getting out and about by walking and going on the mini-bus. We liked having snacks in the Café and had a great time exploring the play equipment at Lady-brook Park, Sherwood Pines and Vicar Water Park and Café.

Parents Come and Play session: Some of our parents came to join us for the afternoon session where we all got messy indoors with painting, and cake decorating. We also got messy outdoors with mud play and water play! Many thanks if you managed to make it, don’t worry if you could not make it, look out for spring term dates.

Continuous Provision: Thanks to the money raised during Autism week by Reggie’s family and friends and other support from our parents with raising money and sending in unwanted construction materials we have been able to add a large sand pit and larger scale water play area to the Caterpillars outdoor courtyard area. This has made a big difference to the children’s engagement and motivation for leaning. Check out the photos of the children enjoying their environment.

Celebrations: Caterpillars took part in Diwali celebrations in the hall, Bonfire night celebrations, Remembrance Day whole school assembly and wreath making in class. Some enjoyed dressing up and supporting Children in Need Day (thankyou parents for your contributions). Finally, Most of the children and lots of parents joined us and had a wonderful time at the Drayton Manor Magical Christmas day out. See the photos of the children spending time with Santa Claus!

A very merry Christmas to all our parents from Lorraine and the Caterpillar Class Team!
